High Cholesterol Causes – The Most Likely Culprits
High cholesterol is something that you should take
seriously. If you
have an elevated
cholesterol level you will be advised to make some changes to
your lifestyle. In reality, it is actually very easy to lower
your cholesterol by making some simple changes provided you
stick to the changes and remain consistent. However, most
people drift back into bad ways after a few months and their
cholesterol levels begin to rise again. Part of the problem is
that having a high cholesterol level doesn't really have any
symptoms or pain to motivate a person to change or keep them
from falling back into old bad habits. Whilst it doesn't cause
pain, it is doing damage to the body, particularly the
cardiovascular system in a slow burn way. It causes hardening
arteries that can lead to a variety of problems like high blood
pressure, blood clots, and even strokes and heart attacks. When
it gets to the stage of strokes there is often little a person
can do. So preventative care by keeping cholesterol levels low
is a prudent way forward even if it is not always easy to stick
with. This article will point out some of the high
cholesterol causes so that you can eliminate them from
your lifestyle.
Our body produces most of the cholesterol that it needs,
which means that we do not need to eat many high cholesterol
foods to get our necessary quota of cholesterol each day. An
except may be to eat foods that increase the level of good
cholesterol in the body..
Food
Our food intake is the primary high cholesterol cause for
everybody. Despite the fact that our bodies have different
rates of function, the food that we take into our bodies brings
in the elements and nutrients that can cause our body to
produce more cholesterol. Our food intake also affects one
other high cholesterol cause which is our weight. The higher
the weight of the person, the more prone he or she is to high
cholesterol levels.
Most, if not all foods, that comes from animals can be
labeled as a high cholesterol cause. Meat, even white meat, can
have nutrients that increase the production of cholesterol in
our bodies. Dairy products and eggs are among the high
cholesterol causes that we get from animals. In order to avoid
a high level of cholesterol in our bodies we need to monitor
and avoid foods that increase our bad cholesterol level and
overall cholesterol level. The need for a low cholesterol diet
is necessary to be able to live healthily.
Alcohol And Smoking
Although, there are some studies that point to alcohol (a
glass a day) being beneficial in increasing the high density
lipoproteins (HDL or good cholesterol), there are also studies
showing that the amount of alcohol that we need to increase the
HDL can eventually destroy our liver and affect our hearts,
which can lead to heightened levels of cholesterol. This will
ultimately make alcohol a high cholesterol cause instead of
helping lower it.
Smoking is also a high cholesterol cause that has no
advantages whatsoever to speak of. It hardens certain tissues
and muscles, ultimately affecting arteries and veins which
cause death. Studies have also shown that smoking is a
prime high cholesterol cause that can reduce the level of good
cholesterol in the body.
Basically, the main high cholesterol causes are bad habits
like smoking or excessive drinking of alcohol. Other bad habits
like eating highly processed foods that include trans or
saturated fats are also bad. Too much consumption of animal
products is not necessary either. Lack of exercise is another
cause that can be remedied by taking a walk or doing some kind
of physical activity each day.
